Nikon D3X: Just an Improved D3 High-Res DSLR
By Marilyn Reid
For many products in the market, the latest product offering is oftentimes just a rehash or an improvement of an earlier product. And this eventually benefits the consumers as a whole. Imagine, getting an improved version of what they currently have. This is what happens as well with Nikon.
The brand has continuously offered cameras that redefine high-resolution cameras and the DSLRs in the market. And up until this time, Nikon has continued its tradition of improving on its product line. One good example is the Nikon D3X. This high-end camera incorporates features that can be seen as well in previously-issued Nikon cameras like the D3 and the D300.
Similarities in LCD and Auto Focus
The LCD screen offered in the D3X is similar to the one found in the D3 and the D300 models of the brand. The screen is something to adore as this gives the user a good peek at the images captured thanks to the 3-inch and high resolution screen. The high-end screen allows for the D3X to be comparable with the other top of the line DSLRs due to the presence of 922,000 dots. And since the screen has increased in size, this also allows users to easily check on focus and in zooming in.
Another hold-over from the previous D3 is the Auto Focus feature. The D3X offers the Multi-CAM 3500FX autofocus system. This Multi-CAM system allows users to set the camera in four modes. The list of modes includes the 9-area, the 21-area, the 51-area and the other 51-area in 3D tracking. The Nikon D3X also gets another system from the previous D3 which allows the user to individually store adjustments involving 20 different lenses.
'Live View' continues in D3X
Live View has been incorporated in a number of high-end Nikon cameras. And this feature is once again included in the Nikon D3X. This feature has been received well by users and the reason for this is that this allows for two options for autofocus and for operation.
For the first focusing mode, there will be a short interruption in the live view display. This is the time when the camera drops the mirror as it focuses and brings back the mirror in order to re-start the focus on the previous scene. The other mode is called the Tripod Mode and this one makes use of the contrast-detect autofocus.
Changing of mirrors is no longer used and instead the camera reads the data from the CMOS sensor and the camera effectively evaluates the transition from light to dark. And in order to get this kind of functionality, the camera must be placed first on the tripod so that it can work. Other similar features that are also found in the D3X are the View Finder, the shutter design (the carbon fiber/Kevlar hybrid shutter mechanism), EXPEED technology, the Vignette and the Picture Control.
There may be other improvements made on the Nikon D3X but it cannot be denied that some of the best working features in this camera have been previously used on other leading Nikon DSLRs.
